Duck Hunter Shoots Angel by Mitch AlbomExtended three weeks due to its overwhelming popularity, Mitch Albom's tender new comedy, Duck Hunter Shoots Angel, is about a tabloid journalist searching for two Alabama hunters who believe they shot a celestial being. Full of zany characters like Alligator Man and the Early brothers, Duck Hunter Shoots Angel is an out-of-this-world tale full of magical surprises and unexpected second chances.

Additional performances were added to accommodate record ticket sales and at the end of its PRTC run, Duck Hunter Shoots Angel moved to the Kansas in Duck Hunter Shoots AngelCity Theatre in Detroit for a commercial run.

PRTC Executive Director Jeff Daniels said,

"We're fortunate to be able to add additional September performances to satisfy Mitch's millions of fans. We only wish we had a million seats."

The World Premiere of Duck Hunter Shoots Angel was directed by PRTC Artistic Director Guy Sanville. The original cast included Joseph Albright, Wallace Bridges, Ryan Carlson, Jessica Cloud, Randolph Fitzpatrick, James Krag, Grant R. Krause, Jenny McKnight, and Wayne David Parker.

Teri L. Clark replaced McKnight for performances beginning August 20 and Lynch R. Travis replaced Bridges starting September 1.

Critics' Quotes:

Sandy and the Alligator Man in Duck Hunter Shoots Angel

"Under Guy Sanville’s direction, the comedy moves seamlessly between different times and settings, in part, because of clever (and cinematic) dialogue repetition... (Wayne David) Parker and (Joseph) Albright, who also played hunters in the Purple Rose’s hunter-themed and otherworldly comedy Escanaba in da Moonlight, deserve kudos for high-energy scenes involving knock-out fights and funny wordplay."

"The acting, across the board, is outstanding... [the play] takes risks and entertains, making it a wholly worthy experiment."

The Bottom Line: The Purple Rose closes its season with yet another excellent production!

The Early Brothers in Duck Hunter Shoots Angel"The playwright... wisely populates his story not with stereotypes, but with unique individuals. Sure, we chuckle uproariously at their antics. But underneath their colorful exteriors we discover a wonderfully diverse cross-section of humanity... A well-written play cannot have a successful premiere without the guidance of an experienced director. Guy Sanville’s contributions to Duck Hunter Shoots Angel are immeasurable. Sanville has staged Duck Hunter Shoots Angel with a superb comic eye. Each act is beautifully paced, and with no break between scenes, each transition is flawless... Sanville and lighting designer Reid G. Johnson have outdone themselves with this production. But most importantly, Albom’s play is an actor’s playground. PRT mainstay Wayne David Parker excels as Duane, ‘the world’s smallest redneck.’ Recent Wilde Award nominee Joseph Albright brings depth to the other Early brother, Duwell, that is amazing to watch."

Lenny and Sandy in Duck Hunter Shoots Angel"The swamp itself is a thing of beauty... Sound effects are awesome, with locusts and crickets and the deep-throated croaks of tree frogs bubbling up in the fog. The only thing lacking is the sulphurous scent of the Alabama swamp and a few pesky encephalitis-carrying mosquitoes. Director Guy Sanville has given skillful direction to the play, with one scene transitioning to another in an effortless manner... is it a good play to see on a sultry summer evening, worth the price of gas and two tickets? A resounding yes. Laughs abound."
