Johnson has had enough. Filled with passions that sometimes terrify
her, she embarks on a journey to the ends of the universe - without
ever leaving Hoboken, New Jersey. In this fiercely comic tale of
extraordinary courage, one woman explores love and physics in her
overwhelming need to expand inward.
As Julie Johnson opens, the title character is in the midst of an emotional breakdown. Curled up on the floor, unwilling to respond to her children, when Johnson’s friend Claire finally coaxes her to speak, she cries, “I'm tired of being dumb.”
Playwright Wendy Hammond tracks Julie’s personal
odyssey from her fetal position on the living room floor through
her rapid gestation and eventual emotional, spiritual and intellectual
rebirth.
This
is a tale of a woman’s emergence from fear and ignorance into
a life filled with love and knowledge.
The cast of Julie Johnson, under the direction of Guy Sanville, featured Suzi Regan as Julie Johnson playing opposite Sandra Birch. Also included were Tobin Hissong, Edward Nahhat, Ian Reed Kesler, and Natalie Knazik.
