Set
in a luxury home in the Detroit suburb of
Birmingham
in the late '80's, National Anthems by Dennis McIntyre examines
the lifestyle of Arthur and Leslie Reed. Imported furniture, a forty-eight
thousand dollar BMW in the driveway, Rolex watches and a Japanese
garden are all staples of this yuppie Oakland County household.
As the Reeds finish a housewarming party for their friends, an unexpected neighbor arrives at their door. Instead of Arthur and Leslie's evening drawing to an end, the festivities have just begun as Ben Cook, a firefighter from the inner city, enters their lives. Laughter, tears, Detroit anecdotes and plenty of drinks fill the remainder of the early morning hours. The similarities and stark differences between these suburbanites becomes clear, while the alcohol clouds their sense, distorts their reality, and reveals their true personalities.
The cast of National Anthems included Leon Flagg as Arthur Reed, Barbara Coven as Leslie Reed, and Phillip Locker as Ben Cook.
