The Poetry of Pizza by Deborah Brevoort

Guy Sanville in Sea of Fools by Matt Letscher

Professor Sarah Middleton arrives at the University of Copenhagen as a visiting poetry scholar, only to find her life irrevocably altered when she stops by a local pizzeria one night. She falls suddenly and unexpectedly in love with Soran Saleen, who wins her heart with his unconventional pizzas. Across a huge cultural divide, their unlikely courtship arouses the passions of everyone around them, setting in motion a rash of culinary courtships and a chaotic comedy of errors.

“We could not be more pleased to present the World Premiere of a new play by internationallyrenowned playwright Deborah Brevoort,” says PRTC Artistic Director, Guy Sanville. “The Poetry of Pizza is a funny, heartfelt romantic comedy, a grownup fairy tale for anyone who still believes in love.” Under Sanville’s direction, the cast of The Poetry of Pizza includes Sarah Benoit, PRTC Resident Artist Sandra Birch (Sea of Fools, Norma & Wanda), Ruth Crawford, David Daoust (Born Yesterday, Across The Way), PRTC Resident Artist Grant R. Krause (The Subject Was Roses, Guest Artist), Hugh Maguire, Qarie Marshall and PRTC Resident Artist Michelle Mountain (When The Lights Come On, The Subject Was Roses).

This production of The Poetry of Pizza includes set design by Bartley H. Bauer, lighting design by Dana White, costume design by Meghann O’Malley Powell, prop design by Danna Segrest and sound design by Tom Whalen. Heather A. Hummel stage manages with Stephanie Buck as assistant stage manager.

Directed by Guy Sanville, the world premiere of The Poetry of Pizza will run from Thursday, October 4 through Saturday, December 22, 2007.
