Located
just off the interstate highway in Missouri, Stanton's Garage is
an eclectic meeting place where broken hearts, shattered dreams
and stalled automobiles can all be fixed with only a minor tune-up.
Lee and Frannie are stranded there while on their way from Chicago
to a wedding; another customer, Ron, needs to get his car fixed
before he attends his ex-wife's wedding. The employees of Stanton's
Garage also have their own myriad of quirks and problems:
the owner has fled the country leaving the daily operations to
Mary, the town busybody who loves to serve her advice to anyone
who will listen; Denny, the ace mechanic, can't fix anything
because he's suffering from dizzy spells; Harlon, a young grease
monkey, is perplexed over which ear to get pierced while another
mechanic, Silvio, is troubled over his 36-year marriage to Audrey.
The lives of all these characters mingle and change due to their
brief time together at Stanton's Garage.
Under the direction of Guy Sanville, with playwright Joan Ackermann in residence for the production, the ensemble cast of Stanton's Garage featured Anne Capron as Lee, Suzi Regan as Frannie and Robert Starko as Ron. Portraying the employees of Stanton's Garage were Peggy Thorp as Mary, Dana Gamarra as Denny, John Hawkinson as Harlon, Roy K. Dennison as Silvio and Addiann Hinds as his wife, Audrey.
