T.
E. Williams' Two Sisters, received its World Premiere
at the PRTC under the direction of Phillip Locker. A satire of
Anton Chekhov's Three Sisters and The Cherry Orchard,
the play is set in rural Russia, during "The Great Tedium
circa 1890, one of the drabbest periods in Russian history."
The parody begins with the pensive, thoughtful older sister Sasha returning to the family home after the man she ran away with to Moscow was crushed by a collapsing bridge--or so she says. She finds her father Fyodor's estate under threat of seizure from the oafish landowner, Boris, who has been swindling the neighbors with the help of a marked set of playing cards.
With
her naive, sprightly sister Katya, who is prone to breaking out in
spontaneous dance and longs to visit the mystic Moscow, they plan
to turn the card tables on him to save the family property. Of course,
their plans go awry, setting up a string of hilarious situations.
The cast included Terry Heck, Pamela Cardell, Shirley Benyas,Troy Sill, Keith Ellis, Roy K. Dennison, and Michael S. Ouimet.
