Playwright Intensive
Fri. October 2 – Sun. October 4 & Sat. October 10, 2015
$400; Fri. 7 – 11pm, Sat. 10am – 6pm, Sun. 11am – 3pm;

Instructors: Guy Sanville, Michelle Mountain, Carey Crim
Limit: 12 writers
Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Working with Purple Rose Artistic Director, Guy Sanville, (director of over 35 professional world premieres), PRTC Literary Manager & Resident Artist, Michelle Mountain, and PRTC Resident Artist & Playwright Carey Crim (Growing Pretty, Wake, Some Couples May…, Conviction), participants will learn basic principles of playwriting including dramatic elements, structure, the differences between tragedy and comedy, character development, story and plot. Each participant will write a short (10 minute) one-act play during class that will be presented and discussed at a public reading. Beginners welcome.

Scene Study Intensive
Meaning It: Acting at the Purple Rose
Mondays, October 12 – December 7, 2015
$475; 7-11pm

Limit: 22 actors
Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Discover new approaches to scene work and character development. Continue your self-discovery as an artist as you build your ability and vocabulary for further advanced study. Our most selective and rigorous class includes physical training, monologue work, and extensive scene study. Class work will also include theatre exercises, coaching from the instructors, readings and discussions. Two to four hours per week of outside rehearsal time with your partner(s) will be required. Beginners welcome.

Acting for the Camera Intensive
Friday, October 16 – Sunday, October 18, 2015
$500; Fri. 7 – 11pm, Sat. 10am – 6pm, Sun. 11am – 3pm
Instructor: Brian Letscher
Limit: 16 actors
Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

PRTC Associate Artist & Playwright Brian Letscher, (film work includes Kate and Leopold, Puccini For Beginners, dozens of television credits including Law and Order: CI, SVU as well as a recurring role on Scandal), will lead this Acting for the Camera Intensive. The class will cover many topics including the differences between theatre and film, between television and film, auditioning for the camera, the on-set experience, taking care of yourself – take after take, the differences between long, medium and close shots, etc. Participants must come prepared with a one-minute memorized contemporary monologue (from television or film). Participants should bring a flash drive or SD card to class. Beginners welcome.

Shakespeare at the Rose
Saturdays, February 6 – March 12, 2016
$325; 10am – 1pm
Instructor: Michelle Mountain
Limit: 14 actors
Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Journey into the heart of Shakespeare. Explore how to approach the text, how to find the truth within the scene or monologue by becoming and remaining present, how to open up to the clues inherent in the text and finally how to apply the fundamental principals of acting to these classic monologues and scenes. This class will give you the tools to approach Shakespeare with confidence, adventure, honesty, and joy. Participants must come prepared with a memorized monologue. Details re: the monologue to be announced. Some outside work may be required. Beginners welcome.

Teen Intensive
July 11 – 21, 2016
$475; Mondays – Thursdays, 10AM – 2PM
Instructors: Michelle Mountain & Lauren Knox
Limit: 16 actors
For students entering 8th-12th grade in Fall 2016.

Experience professional approaches to acting used by Purple Rose artists. Features voice and movement work, audition techniques, monologue, scene work, and acting for film. Students must come to class with a completely memorized one-minute monologue from a published play. Beginners welcome.

Actor’s Boot Camp
Friday, July 15 – Sunday, July 17, 2016
$350; Friday 7 – 11pm, Saturday 10am-6pm, Sunday 11am-3pm
Instructors: Guy Sanville & Michelle Mountain
Limit: 14 actors
Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.

Spend three days of intensive study in acting techniques used by working professionals. Features physical warm- ups, acting exercises, monologue work, and a Q&A about the industry. Lunch is provided on Saturday. Students must come prepared with a memorized one-minute contemporary comedic monologue from a published play. A great class for actors to get a taste of the acting principles that guide Purple Rose artists in their work! Beginners welcome.

Class schedule and instructors are subject to change. Full refunds will be given for any class cancelled.

Full refunds will be given for cancellation of enrollment if notice is received at least five business days before the class begins. No refunds will be given for late cancellations or no-shows for any class.

Unless otherwise specified, participants must be at least 18 years of age due to liability and course content.
