Devin Scillian is a journalist, children’s author, musician, and playwright. For almost 30 years, he anchored the news for WDIV-TV, NBC Detroit. His Sunday morning news program Flashpoint became required viewing for the political set all over Michigan. His reporting assignments took him from Sydney, Australia to Havana, Cuba, from the favelas of Rio to the Ural mountains of Siberia. His reporting from home and abroad earned him five Edward R. Murrow Awards. Before arriving in Detroit, in 1995, he led the Peabody Award-winning coverage of the bombing at the Murrah Federal Building for KFOR-TV in Oklahoma City.
Devin is the author of 22 award-winning children’s books, including Memoirs of a Goldfish, A Parliament of Owls and the national bestseller, A is for America. His Memoirs of a Tortoise won the Bluebonnet Award, one of the most prestigious honors in children’s literature. His most recent book is Memoirs of a Dog, published by Sleeping Bear Press.
As a singer and songwriter, Devin is a three time winner of the distinguished Detroit Music Awards as Best Country Performer. He and his band Arizona Son are a staple of the summer concert circuit in Michigan.
Returning to his deep background in theatre, he’s written his first play. Bastard will make its debut at Jeff Daniels’ Purple Rose Theatre in the fall of 2026.
Devin is married to Corey Scillian, a ceramic sculptor. They are the parents of four adult children and make their home in Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan.
